Our aim is to train First Aiders, Pool or Beach Lifeguards and RLSS life support 3 the knowledge and confidence to use the AED. Even members of the public who has basic life saving skills can be trained to use an AED within their own home. For every minute defibrillation is delayed the casualty chances of survival decreases by 7 - 10 percent.</span> <p align="left"><br /> <br /> <img src="../assets/images/menu_bg.png" alt="what is aed" width="205" height="40" /></p> <span class="normalblacktxt">It is a device which provides an electric shock when a casualty experiences Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). </span> <p align="left"><img src="../assets/images/menu_ca.gif" alt="menu_ca" width="350" height="40" /></p> <span class="normalblacktxt"><img src="../assets/images/aed_2.gif" alt="aed2" name="Image2" width="175" height="133" class="fltlft" id="Image2" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Image2','','../assets/images/aed_1.gif',1)" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" />SCA affects between 70 - 90,000 people per year . It is a condition in which the heart stops beating suddenly and unexpectly, due to a malfunction in the heart electrical system. This malfunction that causes SCA is a life threatening abnormal rhythm or arrhythmia. The most common arrhythmia is ventricular fibrillation (VF). When in VF the heart rhythm is so chaotic that the heart quivers and is unable to pump blood to the vital organs of </span><span class="normalblacktxt">the body. Once theheart has entered VF, SCA occurs. The certificate is valid for twelve months and all students must undergo a refresher course lasting a minimum of 2 hours.
